Grapes are one of the world’s most commonly produced fruit crops and very diversely used, as fresh fruit (table grape) and processed in wine and grape juice. Approximately 77.8 Million Metric Tonnes is the world production of grapes in 2018, of which 57% was used as wine grape, 36% as table grapes and 7% went on to be processed as dried grape (International Organisation of Vine and Wine). 5 countries represent 50% of the world vineyard, namely

Table grape cultivars (Vitis vinifera L. and V. vinifera hybrids with V. labrusca L. and V. amurensis Rupr.) are from the Vitaceae family of deciduous woody perennial plants, being few of the most consumed non-climacteric fruits worldwide. Table grape is a fruit with a relatively low rate of physiological activity which does not ripen further after harvest. India ranks 9th in the world grape production.
